SOTD Saturday 13th December to Friday 19th December

Tuesday

Evening, everybody.

Prep: Claus Porto's Lime-oil face soap
Razor: EJ DE89
Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock SS (4)
Brush: Kabuki Bamboo
Shave cream: Penhaligon's Endymion
Aftershave: Trophy
Cologne:

Cold water splash
Martin de Candre Unscented
Shavemac 177 Silvertip
ATT M2 Kronos
Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow (2)
Speick ASB

I'm not getting along with the 7 O'Clock Yellow too well. Change of blade tomorrow!

Mongoose : UFO
Feather Pro (8)
Thäter 4125/1
Martin de Candre
Agua Balsamica

I'm settling into a nice routine with the above set-up. I'm palm stropping the AC place and seeing how far I can push it.

Tuesday 16th Dec
just as a comparison you understand I don't usually make a habit of this
Left side of face
Valor Auto Strop VC3 Feather hi stainless
Proraso pre shave green tea & Oat
Proraso soap
shave WTG, XTG, ATG,
Alum Block
Proraso pre shave green tea & Oat again
Nivea sensitive post shave balm
Left side of face
Valor Auto Strop VC3 Feather hi stainless
Proraso pre shave green tea & Oat
Proraso soap
shave WTG, XTG, ATG,
Alum Block
Proraso pre shave green tea & Oat again
Nivea sensitive post shave balm
Surprisingly to me anyway the VC4 with the bar gave a more aggressive shave with a few weepers.
I found the handle a little short but quite grippy.
To conclude both razors gave me probably my closest shave ever.
damn you TSR I've got to try yet more razor blade combinations
Cheers Gaz

Tech 73
Supermax #2
Omega 48
Wickham's Bayrum
Barbershop Bayrum a/s

What a combo! Had enough lather for 6 passes. I felt bad throwing the excess way. Bit of redness again but that is down to the blade. Not terrible but not great either

Two left sides of face?

Oops not really two faced just copy and pasting
Great fun.
Were my observations in keeping with the norm and how does the VC2 compare?
Headshave next when the kettle boils but which razor ???

VC3 & VC4 tend to be smoother rides than their predecessors. I'm not really a fan of the VC2; not sure what it is, but I just don't like 'em. The VC1 is my favourite, but I like an aggressive shave - I like to feel the blade. That said, I still have ... erm, certainly a couple of VC3 and VC4 razors. I would also find the VC4 to be the smoother one - I wonder if you sub-consciously pressed harder or got a different angle?

TUESDAY EVENING

Prep: Hot rinse
Razor: Mongoose Polished
Blade: Feather Professional Super
Brush: Semogue 2-band
Cream: TOBS Jerwyn Street
AS: Hai Karate
Post: GFT sandalwood skin food

Two WTG and one ATG pass tried tonight. This really is a very effective razor.

May have pressed harder but there again a different angle on the other left face :)
As an update just done an update with the VC2; plenty of feedback noise wise but it didn't seem to be as close a shave also the head felt it was going to open at any time
if you know what i mean
It could also be that I am trying to walk before I can run

The Valet VC 4 with the safety bar as you probably know was Valet's very last model before they ceased trading, and for me, in terms of shave quality I think it was their best model. I find that it gives a really nice smooth shave with the Feather SE blades.

I like most models except one early Canadian one (I do not know the Classification number that Robert Waite gave it) but it is super aggressive.

Dick

Mastro Livi Grifetto

I am enjoying my Mastro Livi Grifetto shave after shave and I love it! It seems it is getting even better at each new shave and this is of course making me even happier for having bought it. Being an affordable razor, when compared to a whole artisan one made by Mastro Livi, it gives Grifetto an even more attractive chance to get it, nevertheless, with the usual quality delivered by Mastro Livi on each of his straight razors.

  • Pre-Shave: Proraso Green Cream
  • Soap: Tcheon Fung Sing Red Tub Shaving Cream
  • Brush: MÜHLE Modern 281 H 23, Fine Badger, Pine - 21 mm - Size M
  • Bowl: Gerby Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi Grifetto, 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point
  • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
  • After Shave: Mennen Skin Bracer Aftershave
