S.O.T.D. w/c Saturday 7th - Friday 13th December 2013, incl.

Monday's Meddling:

EJ DE89L, Sputnik
Hand-carved Beech 24mm 2-band Finest
Lucky Tiger Shave Cream
Barbershop Bay Rum
Eucalyptus Post-shave Oil
Mr Taylor's Cologne

Fantastic! The LT was a sample I was very generously given by Martin some time ago and had lain forgotten. I spotted it when my good lady tidied the cupboard and it provided a great shave with a nice scent and excellent skin care. Thanks Martin! These Sputnik blades take some beating and I've not found anything that can - don't even need a shim in the EJ.

Monday ix December, 2013

Prep: Hot shower, Kiehl's Energizing Face Wash
Pre: Vito's Crema Pre Dopobarba
Brush: Invisible Edge Horn Handled Silvertip
Cream: Shulton Old Spice
Razor: Ikon Open Comb
Blade: Sputnik #1
Post: Alum, Lucky Tiger After Shave and Face Tonic
Fragrance: Penhaligon's Endymion

Result: A touch of prolonged irritation, but no complaints. All round pretty good.

Have a good day, folks.

Jon

Monday Morning:

Dovo Bismarck 6/8"
Semogue Owners Club Bristle
D.R. Harris Marlborough, soap
Face Lather
Neil Miller-2.5" Latigo Leather
D.R. Harris Marlborough ASL
Thayers Medicated Superhazel with Aloe Vera
WTG, XTG & ATG (neck)

First shave with my brand new Bismarck. This was a 5 star shave! This razor is by far better than the cheaper Dovo Best Quality that I own as well.
It is smooth, like a Sheffield razor, but aggressive like an Heljestrand.
I am excited!

Soap from Alepo - Chubby 1 best badger - Feather all stainless - Israeli Personna #1 - Pre JASÖN - Shaving soap Gibbs Nº53 - Alum block - Thayers Original Astringent - ASB Health & Aloe CRG - ASL Florida Water.

Gillette Ball End Tech
Astra Superior Platinum
Proraso Green Soap
New Forest 2202 Oak
Boots Witch Hazel Gel
Boots Freshwood Balm

First DE shave in a long time (almost exclusively use SE's). Very comfortable, the astra blade was very smooth, also first use of the Freshwood Balm took some coaxing to get it out of the bottle, nice scent, worked very well.

Monday Afternoon

2 days of stubble

Prep: Hot shower
Razor: Cobra Classic
Blade: Feather Pro (7)
Brush: Bodger 404
Soap: Klar Kabinett
A/S Balm: 4711

No drama 3 pass shave. Thought the blade was on its way out, but the result was good clean shave. No drama's with this setup. I am a 3 shaves and bin the blade on my DE setups, these Feathers really are long lasting.

I have been loaned the razor by master enabler SM304, to that end I have bought my own.....

Tomorrow will be with my own Cobra (though being a "thrifty" Yorkshireman I will use SM304's blades)............. :) :) seeing as he has cost me more money!

Harry, not sure whether it's your choice in gear or your skills in photography (probably both though!), but your pics are just smoking hot!! Thanks for posting.

My Sunday shave:

Kent T4 Silvertip Badger
Martin de Candre
Le Grelot 6/8
Weleda ASB
Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's classic Santal Noble

Missed a few posts due to pesky computer problems... but today's scrape gives the gist of what I've been up to..

Hot flannel
Proraso pre, menthol
Muhle Silvertip, Nanny's hard soap, Cedarwood & Vetyver
Digress HD (#2.5), Rapira SS (1)
Cold splash
Proraso AS cream

Some very good and consistent shaves (especially today's)
Yes... I've bought a Muhle Silvertip synthetic brush... 23mm knot and "horn" handle. I think it's bloody marvellous! Tried it with creams, soft soaps and hard soaps... and might give it a bash with MWF tomorrow. Buy one, everybody!

Prep: Hot shower, followed by Neutrogena Razor Defense Face Scrub
Pre: Village Barber oil
Soap: Mike's Barbershop
Brush: California Redwood Burl handle, 24mm TGN Finest 2-band
Razor: E&J DE89 w/iKon bulldog handle
Blade: Personna Lab blue (1)
Post: Thayer's Original witch hazel
ASB: Village Barber balm

Been a while since I used the lab blue blade, just as sharp as I remember. BBS in 2.5 passes and only one weeper.

Prep : Shower
Pre : None
Soap : cheap sandalwood and orange stuff off eBay (lucky4ever)
Brush : Edwin Jagger Best Badger
Blade : Rapira Swedish Super Steel
Post : Alum block
ASB : Bluebeards revenge shaving balm

My good grief, what a blade :) First time I've used one of these, absolutely awesome. Smooth, sharp and painless.

Best bit, the shave was at 08:00 this morning (I'm on holiday, so a lay in) and now at heading for half past 7 at night my face still feels smooth as the proverbial billiard ball or baby's aris :)

No idea how it's going to last, but if it makes a few days then it's going to be a good competitor for the Astra SP I've been in love with :)
