Razor: Gillette slim (the square handled one)
Blade: Lord platinum

It would of been my dad's birthday today so this is as close as I can get to what he used. He had a slim held together with selotape and would probably have used a wilkinson sword blade, but the shave stick and boar brush are right.

One tiny nick on my large mole... I thought this was all behind me; obviously not, other than that a decent shave. My straight shaving target was to be fully proficient by Christmas, I have not reached that target which I have now extended to Easter!!

I am just not shaving enough with the straight to put in the practice time required.

I found this blade far too mild in the Mongoose (a very safe shave, but not as close as I'd like) but they're good in a kamisori.

I still have crap shaves and nicks with the straight, Dick. I reckon I'm well into triple figures by now!

I have noticed improvement though (I've had a few really good shaves too) so will keep practising which, as you've said, is key I think.

31 December 2014 Shave

An absolutely wonderful shave today with the Schick J3 / Gillette Twin Injector combination. I really enjoyed this setup today.

This will also be the last of the vintage radio, phonograph and television background motif which allowed me to combine a couple of my pursuits together in one image.

Happy New Year everybody! My usual lineup but a lovely shave to end the year.

This is the first NYE since I was 16 (just realised that's a decade!) that I'm not working behind a bar but the girlfriend goes back to work tomorrow morning. As such, there're bottles of champagne and crémant in the fridge and we're spending the evening working out our travel plans for 2015-16. Tickets to New York are booked for Easter but we've also got Eurostar vouchers to use before June and other holidays to plan.
