Interesting points by Cyril. The only way to convince yourself about all these differences is to spend a lot of money to find out for yourself. For most products, going the extra mile for a bit more quality usually costs a disproportionate amount of money - brushes are no different.
If we all used our brushes as recommended by the manufacturers ie with to and fro painting motions, we would notice very little difference in many of our brushes.
As to two band variations, I agree. It is probable that there are not only variations in the hair but due to the weather conditions at the time of washing and drying the hair.
