Just watched Mantic's new video - 7 Tips for Lathering MWF. http://mantic59.blogspot.com/

Have been thinking about buying this for a while and since I live in a hard water area I wanted to know if anyone agrees with the 7 tips.

Also, what does MWF smell like? It strikes me as something which has no scent.

It's a really good value soap - lovely scent which others may be able to describe. I never could create great lather with it but still got very good shaves. Everyone should try it.

The tips are spot on.

Mr. M is the man!but I find 7 tricks to facelather MWF/Kent are too many....
I was gonna made a video of how to facelather MWF with the Semogue finest badger brush this weekend but I made it today...the video is a bunch of BLAH, BLAH,BLAH in spanish, but you can see how EASY is to facelather MWF.I live in Utah and I have really hard water (I would have to install a water softener soon) so I dont think hard water is really a problem when lathering up MWF.Hunnymonster gave me the trick a year ago:warm water and load the brush really well,at least for 15 seconds (thanks mate!)
Anyway,heres the video:

I also have hard water in Riga so one day filled Paul's wooden soap bowl with lukewarm water, took shower, removed water from soap bowl, loaded the wet brush, made fantastic lather and shave. It's one of the very best soaps out there and I personally love the scent.

I am confused as to why John Lewis choose to sell such a notoriously difficult soap to lather, especially re-branding it. Is this perhaps because there are very few other hard shaving soaps on the market that they could use for their own purposes? I have found it tricky to lather after a good couple of years serious pogonotomy. For a typical chap who uses a soap and brush but hasn't got quite the obsession that we have ( yes I think they actually exist!), when faced with a choice between the tricky Kent or the easy Palmolive you'd think it would be a no-brainer!

I'm amazed at the differences we have with this soap! I bought it when I was looking for a decent high end soap and a few web searches for others had it on their sites. It was actually Fidos post that he had problems with it that but the idea in my head to try it. It's one of the best soaps I've used. I live in the Scottish Borders so we have lovely soft water and it lathers a treat. My only negative is that I don't find it very slick in comparison to Trumpers almond or say Cella. I will try it now with warm water to see what difference if any that makes.

I find MWF is not a very cushioning lather. If you have your technique down pat, the MWF lather will not be an issue. The after care is very good. It will never match ARKO, for example, for a thick n creamy lather, it will provide more than enough cushion for a decent shave.

it may be better suited to straight users?
