You could get a grub screw or a bit of your 5mm rod and force the thread. Take care not to drive the thread too far and or you'll warp the baseplate - same with the 1924, something I know from experience.

I'll give that a go, tomorrow back to the engineering shop

I used a 5mm x 25mm stainless grub screw and managed to tap the Valet head out in a minute or so, both the old handle and a 5mm thread fit very well. next stop gather some designs or plagiarize some photos take your pick, then commission off to Iain

Good news!

Here's food for thought ...

That's a Valet VC1 Model C Set handle on a GEM. I love the simplicity of that handle - the same length, but thicker would be very functional and a great weight.

Now that I like. I've contacted Templ8 giving him carte blanch as long as it fits and it has a good grip
