Hello,
I am spending a few days in York with the new Mrs Z. She lived here for a few years some time ago so knows the place a bit. Anyway, any recommendation for shaving related shops or any other shops etc... Also things to do, see or places to eat etc.

Chris

Yes, there's a Penhaligon's in the Outlet.

In town, there's a Crabtree & Evelyn at the end of Stonegate and across the square (back to C&I and keep Betty's on your left), there's Burgin's: http://www.burginsofyork.co.uk/

Find this cracking Turkish Fast Food stall: http://goo.gl/maps/QRpz4 ... and sink a few at Pivni: http://goo.gl/maps/MRcUl

There's a barber in one of the side streets that offers straight razor shaves and a shop that sells watches that also has some razors and shaving gear. Can't remember the names or exact locations unfortunately.

Be warned the prices at the Penhaligons outlet have gone through the roof in the past year.

You used to be able to get two bottles of a wide range of scents for about £65 IIRC. The same offer is now £90 for two.

I was in York a couple of weeks ago. The best deals at Penhaligons were 50ml bottles of Sartorial for £25.

Thanks everyone. I have been to Burgins and Mullen & Mullen. Tried to get a shave at 2 places but both were too busy. Now, do I shave tonight (as I have brought a small chest full of shaving gear with me) or wait til tomorrow for a Turkish shave?

Me and the Wife enjoyed the Yorvik centre and a nice riverboat cruise, lots of History to enjoy. I used my phone to find a few hidden gem backstreet pubs near the Minster, it's worth a shot trying google or a what's around me type app.

I hope you have a nice time.

Had a shave this morning here http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/york/business-guide/feature/mediterranean-barber-shop

Followed by the Turkish takeaway recommended by Paul, lovely. Also was in Pivni last night.

Resurrecting this old thread, I'm heading back to York again in a couple of weeks. This time I'll get to spend a little more time in town.

Anyone know of any shaving good stores still in business?

I looked but did not find last year when we went. However we were only there a few days and the Mrs had a list of things to do. Certainly didn't stumble upon any but that doesn't mean much. Would like to know for next time though, it's a fine city, despite me being a lot closer to Jermyn St etc.

Everyone has closed

The perfumery, Mullen and Mullen, a modern barber that sold shaving gear including Bollin Webb, Baxter etc, the tobacconist, Old Sole. You can only buy Kolonya from the various Turkish barbers.

Penhaligons doesn't do much skincare at the outlet centre, just two tubes of shaving cream.

Damn, ah well not to worry, looks like I'll just have to hit micklegate run instead...well perhaps not, not sure my liver could stand up to the punishment anymore, it's been a good while since its had the training from living there!

Three of the Micklegate pubs have closed, The Falcon Tap, Brigantes, and Gibsons.
