Security can go too far though; the first day I got my card from my current bank, I went shopping the following Saturday, and having not had a card for about a week, I bought things from about 4 -5 differnet shops in a few hours (wild!! yeah, I know). Next shop I went into the card was blocked!!! Finally got through to the fraud prevention teeam in the bank, where a very po faced (if you can imagine that on the phone) woman told me it had been stopped because of 'uncharacteristic spending patterns'. I asked her how she would know what my 'characteristic spending patterns' would be, but to no avail.
Couple of years later, myself and HWMOM went to New Zealand; about a week in, the card was locked. I phoned them, I logged into my a/c and sent messages....to no avail. If I'ld been backpacking on my own, I would have been sleeping on the street!!
