So I have decided to theme this shave 'Salty old hairy arsed sea dogs'
Salty new arse hair removing dog - Razorrock Hawk V3 in shiny stainless
A dog with a salty bottom - Kai Captain
My bottom is salty - Penhaligon's Bayolea
Old salty haired brush (it helps) - Cadman 30mm Tuxedo
Smelling salts - Penhailgon's Bayolea aftershave splash
I really have to thank
@merchant_seaman for bringing this theme to mind. Thank you.
I have been a seaman for the best part of my life since I left school which was more of an education in urban survival. I must have the only O'level in fighting and eating fish and chips. I went to sea as escapism from a life which could quite easily have gone the wrong way, plus in Doncaster you either went down pit, built trains or built tractors. None of which they do these days. I soon discovered the life of a seaman involved fighting, getting drunk and debauchery. Similar to if I'd stayed at home. As they say 'Being at sea is the same as being in jail, except we can drown as well'. Happy thoughts. In a common theme as I used to walk past the prison at Peterhead the inmates used to lean out of their cells and shout 'You off the ship down there?'. 'Yeh'. 'You unlucky bastard'
Naff all to do with shaving, but my normal waffle
This shave was all about giving the new Hawk V3 a run out. I have covered some of this in another thread so I won't digress too much. Which, yes, I already have. The main thing I noticed with the V3 is its standard of finish is exemplary and how nice to see a piece of stainless polished to a near mirror finish as against to the dull lumps most modern stainless razors tend to offer. Idleness.
A very tidy little razor which moves the basic aluminium Hawk on a step further. At least it comes with a nice handle which offers some sense of heft and grip. More than I could ever say for the aluminium version which is a token gesture. Altogether a nice package although it does lack the total weight of say the General or the Mongoose. It also looks a little like an earth scraper for garden gnomes or some kind of a miniature tool for Bonsai trees.
Starting off with the usual Kai Captain as my base platform for a new SE razor and things get off with a hassle free. This particular razor leans very much towards the mild side of life on a razors edge and I think it needs a more assertive blade to make it shine which will be my next step. It has the same kind of slightly rough feel as their Game Changer. It is a strange sensation which I have only ever had with Razorock razors. I am not saying it is a negative matter but I think it does reflect in the end results which are great but slip short of being outstanding. The General V2 is much the same weight but has a more authoritative nature about it and I think this is where the Hawk V3 is letting the side down. Like I said a change of blade might beef up the ride.
A happy shave, but not perfection.
I do love the Bayolea from Penhaligons and both the soap and the splash did an absolute sterling job of making lather and making me smell anything but the salty hairy arsed old sailor I am. Actually not so hairy arsed as most folk tend to think sailors are. Not this one anyway. Can't say I ever shaved there (care not to think about it) but I have shaved my main bracing tackle in the past and all these threads about 'shaving my private parts' prattle far too much. Look, if you want hairless genitals just get on with it and if you cut your cock off in to the deal then your technique must be way off.
Have a great week ahead everyone and I really do wish you all safe and happy times.
Here's the part you are really reading all this for and those Japanese Steam Punk girls, Fate Gear. Enjoy. I do
