SOTD Saturday 27th August to Friday 2nd September 2016

So some what counter productively I've just realised I didn't post my very first SR shave from Sunday!!

Please see details and picture below;

Starting with software and hardware;
Solingen 4/8 full hollow from our very own @Fergiebilly
P&B Obsidian
Omega Professional 49
Alum (ouch)
Thayers Aloe WH
Speick AB

I was only going to do my cheeks with the SR and perhaps should have stuck to that plan... However I ended up doing a full 2 pass shave which I then needed to finish off as it was a patchy finish.

The first pass I was extremely tentative, but found that it wasn't a huge amount different to shaving with a Rolls Razor, just the blade is a lot longer and you have to be careful where it can end up going!! I started on the cheeks which I found were no real problem and gained a bit of confidence from that, I even did my left cheek with my left hand! Trying to remember all the great advice from guys on here and from YouTube I was trying to ensure the near vertical angle and feather touch.

I moved onto the lip and then onto the chin. The lip is an interesting area and I got a small nick just under my nose as I was trying to figure out the right angle and think I was a bit shaky. Not the end of the world though and it didn't bleed much. The chin, as most SR shavers will say, is a bit of a bitch. Whilst I didn't nick myself, I didn't get it completely clean either (but I also struggle with this sometimes using the Rolls or normal SE so no surprise there!)

I should really have stuck to two passes on the face and not gone to the neck as that's where the irritation and a couple more nicks came to play. My neck is troublesome anyway and I did come away from the SR shave very red and in more places than usual, but a good massage with some Speik AB and the redness subsided substantially within an hour, only leaving me with a couple of red patches in the normal area.

All in all I was bloody surprised how well it went for the first go and how much I managed to achieve. The end result under the jawline, chin and some neck areas was wholly unacceptable, but my cheeks were good, nearly passable and the top lip wasn't bad either... The Alum stung like a bitch and I needed to have a single clean up pass before applying it, but I'm happy I didn't end up in A&E and I'm looking forward to round two in a day or twos time... Ding Ding

Nice picture @Looney12345 .

I have got the same results with Feather's as You. Then I tried KAI DE's. Their sharpness is in the same league as Feather, but with no irritation nicks etc. They are by far my blade of choice. Also for SE and Artist Club shavers.
It's strainge but the feather artist club blades I love, it's the DE feather blades I find a little rough. After testing many blades (DE) I've found the Astra SP blades not only sharp but smooth as well .Gillette silver Blue's are much the same for me as the Astra's, smooth and sharp.

Pleased to hear your handle still intact.

My second SR shave, but I dialled it in to only the face this shave.

- Eicker Solingen 4/8 full hollow

- Merkur 34C

- Omega Professional 49

- MWF (just to wind up @Fergiebilly )

- Thayers Aloe WH

- Speick AB

The fat is a weird soap, I love the smell and the after shave skin feel (moisturised and smooth), but this is only my second time using it and I can't get a thick, creamy lather, just lots of slightly airy lather. I will persevere though, just only when I fancy experimentig.

So to the shave itself, instead of getting excited like I did on my first shave, I reigned myself in and stuck to my face, no neck shaving. Two passes with the SR and my cheeks were in great shape, my top lip was a bit patchy and parts of my chin were patchy, but I'm getting better with both hands and there were no nicks and zero irritation this time around so that was a result. I finished he shave off with a single pass on my face and two passes on the neck with a Merkur 34C and ended up DFS all around so I'm happy!
