What made your day a good one

" Noodling " you say Marty. Need to remember that one for my next lecture on the potential dangers of inbreeding.JohnnyO. o/

The inbreds do well at noodling cos they have more than five fingers. You dangle your digits in the lair of a catfish which are VERY aggressive and territorial and they make a grab for your hands. Luckily they don't have teeth as such more like sharp velcro so you can just pull'em out if they are small enough or have a wrestle if they big'uns. Deep fried cat is actually pretty tasty when it's seasoned up and it helped feed folks during the depression.

Dear mother, those are some siza catfish ! If those guys ever came over here I'll need to take them up Loch Lomondside to try their luck at noodling some of our pike and eels with bare handies .

Well personally being bottom feeders I would rather put out a freshly killed roach myself rather than sticking my arm in some muddy pond, they are quite popular in many coarse fishing fisheries these days.

Hiya,

Well, at least noodling isn't lethal, especially when compared to diving for abalone and what that's all about. The ones I mean here are harvested along the Northern California coastline. Heh, too lazy to check about any certain season for those succulent shellfish....might even be year round.

Anyway, the skin diving snorkel and mask and fins set up is ok, but no scuba. There's a minimum legal shell size and I'm sure a limit of how many per day. I may be wrong, but fresh abalone might not ever be available in a store. Frozen only, and even then crazy money. Oh, you can find this at many restaurants around San Francisco, the price being more than lobster tail. It is luscious!!

So these guys jump in the real cold water along the coast, in with the kelp and seaweed and current and murky vision. Oh yeah, sometimes a seal will be nearby. Once in a while a big shark will be trailing the seal. It can be sketchy being in the water in a black wetsuit. Very popular area for Great Whites. I believe the only place with more is Australia somewhere.

The sport divers have to feel underneath the underwater rock outcroppings, since that's where the abs hang out. Stuck to those formations by using a suction cup kinda thing. There's also moray eels and who knows what else.

Then the abs need prying off with a special tool and you gotta be sneaky and fast before they latch down on whatever they're attached to.
