Which blades for this razor and tips

Hi everyone,

A good few months ago, before I started seriously DE shaving, I bought an ever ready razor on ebay that is the same as this I think:

http://www.executive-shaving.co.uk/vintage-ever-ready-single-edge-safety-razor-1912.php

I'm thinking of giving it a try, just to see what it's like but not 100% on blades.

Am I right in thinking it takes the Gem coated SE blades that you get at Connaught? Any chance of picking any alternatives up locally (i.e boots or chemist etc)

Also, any tips about a first shave people are willing to through in the mix would be gratefully received?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I think connaughts is the only UK supplier you won't find them on the high street.

I'm sure some others will be along with tips but keep the flat part of the head pretty flat to your face

Coincidence, but i picked up one of these a month ago, got some blades from connaught and decided to give it a thorough clean this morning. It has come up brilliantly so i intend to use it for the first time tonight.

One of my favourite razors, coupled with a gem blade from connaught I get a smooth irritation free shave with mine.
They even sound great, like buttering toast !

Connaughts is the only UK supplier yes. But be very careful don't buy from elsewhere because in some DIY and Tool Shops sell exactly same looking blades, I think they are for Carpet cutting and Window/Glass scraping jobs. They look same but not good for shaving!

Sound advice and good to know, but i personally wouldn't buy any shaving 'stuff' from anywhere other than a reptuable shaving supplier, especially a DIY shop!

You are right but as its a rare blade, not as common as a DE, when someone sees them, they may think its the same thing! they are actually similar even the cardboard rapping!
