Where to buy Martin de Candre in England

Not sure if this has been mentioned.

Martin de Candre have been revising their website.

This is now their online shop. Click on the USA flag for English translation if needed:

170g jar of the shaving soap is now 40 euros plus 6 euros UK shipping. Still high but the shipping is now reasonable.

Is it really worth that, or is it more about bragging rights? :s

I'm not trying to be provocative, just curious as to how it compares with MWF or other standards?

Is it really worth it? Well imagine if all soaps cost the same across the board. I don't think everyone here at TSR would choose to purchase MdeC but I expect the majority would, and for a lot of those it would be their 'go-to' soap because it really is excellent. Now of course it isn't the same price as all the other soaps, it's a lot more expensive. But it does last a long time which adds some value for money. Also, because of its price and (until recently) ridiculously expensive postage charge, most wet shavers either can't afford it or cannot justify the expense. This has given it a certain kudos and mystery which few other soaps have.

Speaking personally I think it is worth it, but I'm sure not everybody will agree. And just because I feel it is, it doesn't mean I'm actually going to buy any for myself. Well not yet anyway...

Yes you are absolutely right. I registered and tried again and the shipping goes up to 10, presumably once the site identifies you as living across the channel.

It costs about the same as a bottle of Lagavulin, and lasts much longer. Both are treats and very nice too, but unlike the whisky there are products on the market at a much lower price which are its equal. I'm glad I got some, but a repeat purchase isn't very likely.

It's a lovely soap, beautifully presented, wonderful scent.

Trumpers Eurcris £19 for 80g

DR Harris Marlborough £17.95 for 100g

M de C £29.80 for 170g

So in this class M de C is now good value?

Yes when compared to those soaps. I suppose if you are happy to go for a higher-end soap then it's just the initial outlay that might put you off.

I know I'll be looking into getting some in the next little bit. The only way I can get over the insane shipping price (to Canada) is the fact that I think it will "last an age" as a member said above. I acquired a sample and I can't believe it only takes a few quick strokes of the brush on the soap to produce a wonderful lather!
