unlocking an iPhone

OK, so I bought John's iPhone.

I'm a Vodafone PAYG user - what's the best way to unlock the iPhone so it will work with my SIM?

The man in the local shop wants £55 and three days ("to register it with Apple").

But iLibertyX looks fine . . .

go to jailbreakme from the browser, don't do the apple updates through itunes.Alternatively send it to me for two days and 40 quid

Ollie, try contacting o2 if the phone is out of contract they will unlock it for free..........

You will need some info off John to do this or he may have to fill in the form for you?
Good luck.

Have a look at the links.

All done - and for free - by John calling O2

Thanks everyone. As ever, there's very little this place doesn't know.
