unlocking an iPhone

OK, so I bought John's iPhone.

I'm a Vodafone PAYG user - what's the best way to unlock the iPhone so it will work with my SIM?

The man in the local shop wants £55 and three days ("to register it with Apple").

But iLibertyX looks fine . . .

I don't suck on the Apple cock, but my understanding is that the version of both hardware and software it's running is important to guiding you forward.

I was going to ask what if it's > iOS 4.02? (Having read that it was 4.02 when offered for sale and remembering that 4.02 killed the PDF exploit)

That said, a quick look around there are a wealth of bodies offering to do it for $25 or less.

iLibertyX seems to be an old tool for firmware (or as they call it now iOS) less than 1.14... QuickPwn is apparently the successor tool.

It's 4.02 (the jailbreakme exploit is patched on that)...

Ollie, try contacting o2 if the phone is out of contract they will unlock it for free..........

You should be "hot to trot" for the upgrade to 4.10 then... if it's available for the 3G, which it does seem to be and apparently improves performance over 4.0x...
