Truefitt & Hill brushes, any good?

Gentlemen

As I don't possess a brush yet, I'm thinking of a T&H one as they kindly sent me a plethora of shaving cream samples.

As a newcomer, are they any good? If not, what can you experts recommend for roughly the same money?

Over to you guys

I know nothing of T&H brushes but as a matter of course I always recommend the Vulfix 404 Badger/Boar Mix to anyone who is foolish enough to ask for guidance on brushes within my hearing.

Also here is an excellent thread in the brush section about this product.

Having only one brush left to review in my shaving brush blog - its still on its way over the Atlantic - I ought to offer an opinion.
The Vulfix 404 badger/boar mix should probably be everyone's first brush. It will serve you well with soaps and face lathering but also whip up creams in a bowl and you can paint it on in comfort. Then give yourself time to consider other options. T&H carry a lot of brushes made on behalf of the owner of the Rooney brand name. They have quite a wide price range. But there are plenty of other brand names worthy of consideration. You will soon gather enough ideas here to decide your preferences.

This is the thread to which Anthony refers:

May I ask how you scored the samples?

Yep...the 404 mix is the default recommendation for the best value brush but if you're willing to stretch to a T&H brush then what's the budget?
If it's £50+ then chances are it will be made by Rooney, however I understand Vulfix also provide T & H with brushes probably at the lower end.

So decide how much you want to spend but as its your first brush the 404 mix will definitely do.

Yes, although the on line shop offers only a very small percentage of their available brushes.

This is one I picked up a few weeks ago from the shop and have placed it next to a Duke 3 Best for comparisons. I’ve only used it five times so far but I prefer it over the Duke. I’m led to believe that Rooney produce these for T&H.

The T&H is the Rooney style 1 - medium?

What price do they go for that you've seen Fido.. :?:

In the UK Executive Shaving sell the Rooney 1/2 in Best for £50. In silvertip for £69.

In the USA Vintage Blades sell just the "Super" 1/2 for $99.99

The biggest rip off is the Rooney "Finest" now only selling at Classic Shaving in the USA for $289.99. I bought one for the purposes of my blog, The handle is the same as the other grades, so the knot difference to silvertip is about £120. It's quite absurd. But if people are mad enough to buy it.........
