Re: Truefitt and Hill pre shave oil
Well the samples arrived just after Christmas, and so I tried this oil. I suppose this has now turned into a bit of a review, but I feel cheeky starting a new thread on the same product so here we go.
Just to confirm, there was only one sachet in the big sample pack, enough for about 3 pre shave treatments, even though I was heavy handed. I liked it a lot, so ordered a full bottle from T+H direct, and that was with me the next day. I'm basing the opinion on only 4 shaves, so tailor your opinion suitably.
First thing to strike me was how fluid it is for an oil. I'd had bad experiences with the mass market shaving oils and expected maybe some clogging, either in the blade or in the brush, but I've encountered none so far. It's virtually water like in terms of fluidity, and in fact has a slight soapyness as you massage it into wet skin. There is a *very slight* foaming, which surprised me. I'll list the ingredients below for the sake of Henk etc, and maybe they can explain the lack of viscosity and the presence of some white thin foam.
The smell is initially all lemon and it's direct, obvious, just like sniffing a cut lemon. But it's a nice freshness straight from those zesty oils.. you get a little grapefruit as it hangs about. As you massage it in, there's something deeper... I smell cardamom pods... you're reminded of pilau rice almost. So it's citrus overload warmed by a little spice. Very pleasant indeed.
Shave wise, it's excellent, that first pass is extremely smooth and comfortable.
Downsides? Well there's a big one for me: It seems to glue your stubble to the sink when you empty the water out. A quick rub with a blob of shower gel and it'll go, but it's a slight annoyance.
It's £16 for 60ml, which is a shocker. But on the upside a tiny amount goes a very, very long way... just a few drops rubbed in during the shower is all it takes, but I guess it'll make a good shortcut for the rushed early morning shaver with no chance of a shower.
Rather than a picture of just the bottle I'll throw in todays "SOTD" shot where it joins the routine stuff.
