Today's shave was a change from my original planned shave due to a delivery yesterday.
I was lucky enough to pick up a B1 (i think) Schick repeating razor for less than a New Cart razor with a pack of blades. I have been after one of these types for a long time, however, they always went for what i considered big money and i lost a few because i would not spend too much. that all changed this week when i won the bidding on flea-bay.
I got it yesterday and stripped it down, cleaned it and checked all the parts, all intact including blades & the original blade blank. She does have some pitting although for a used razor at around 90 yrs old she still looks wonderful to my eye. After the clean up she was placed in a barbicide bath then rinsed and polished.
I have not looked forward to my daily shave this much for a good few months.
So today i put together a Vintage shave and had "The General" on the Subs bench "just in case".
I had a great lather, i planned it to be a bit thicker than normal for extra cushioning.
The 1st Pass WTG was more a trial and error pass and i found the shave angle pretty quickly, although the blade was cutting it was indicating it was not the sharpest i have used. No Issues and a lot of stubble removed.
2nd Pass XTG was similar, it took a few strokes to get the cutting angle right, then, again the blade indicating it was cutting, not tugging but not smooth. Again no Issues.
3rd Pass ATG, probably the easiest of the shave with the angle found straight away, The shave angle is very shallow for me just off riding the cap.
A quick rinse of and check and would say i have a DFS finish, very acceptable, you would have to be skin close to notice.
I had the lather and the General at hand so i completed a buffing pass to finish BBS.
That was a real joy.
I loaded a new Personna injector into the blade cart and loaded it into the head, this gave me much pleasure, it is sitting tight in the head without any movement, it seems as if the new blades are a touch thinner than the originals, it is now ready for another run out.
I have also fed the leather pouch and will polish it up later.
So, There it is, my 1st ever Schick repeating razor shave.
Sitting here smiling like a Cheshire cat, BBS, comfortable and smelling Pretty Damn Good.
Stay Safe and Enjoy your Day All
