Soap or Cream?

I just have soaps & creams both of which I like. Not so much that I believe either is "better" so much as they are different. Because of skin irritations I've always tended to go with a product which didn't cause any outbreaks. And back in the late 50s early 60s all I ever saw in our local chemist were soaps, often sticks, so that's what I used. Nowadays I often feel really spoilt for choice when I see what's available online, although I still tend to stick to my one fave soap mostly.

I started with soaps for my first few weeks of DE shaving Palmolive, Tabac etc as they were cheap and readily available. Probably due to inexperienced lathering I moved onto creams and soft soaps Proraso, Cella then used TOBS cream and bowl lathered which worked well. I've now gone back to mainly soaps for some reason and find I can face lather them reasonably well now. As Fido says a quick swirl on the soap if 2nd or 3rd pass isn't up to much restores the lathering to normal.
