Impressive! I wonder what the winners maximum was?

The simple answer is yes it was worth that to the buyer, $10 less to the under-bidder and about $50 less to the next guy.

There were also a few that bid over the $500 mark.

You can't even buy a crap work of art of £500, why not a rare piece of engineering?

I understand it's rarer because it's a chrome plated one and new in the case which is the reason it sold for so much, but how much do the standard gold toggles go for?

One here for £81 delivered <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Gillette-Adjustable-Gold-Toggle-Razor-F-4-Code-/370444619793?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5640385011" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Gillette- ... 5640385011</a><!-- m -->

So I take it, a cased one in good condition would fetch quite a bit more? Presumably they shave like a Fatboy and the value lies in the fact that few of them were manufactured?

That one was very unusual. the case was rarer and it was chrome, never seen one of them as good before. Not worth that kind of money but then again in collectors is some paint splashed by a one eared guy with mental health issues worth more than the national dept of some countries?

No it never is, all you need is two people with deep pockets wanting it. Being on the receiving end when I sold an Aristocrat I cannot say I was thinking "now stop it, it is not worth that much".

I am sure both the buyer and seller are very happy.

prob someone with more dosh than he can spend :roll:

Isn't that the whole enchantment of auctions?

Sometimes something worth a lot will go for very little and the buyer gets a real bargain, other times the item you didn't think would go for very much has the price driven up by competing buyers, and ends up going for more than anyone would have expected.

I have sold items with a buy it now price of £40 which have gone at auction for £75 because two people were competing...go figure.
