it's really hard soap that needs to be dampened to loosen up.

Before i'm in the shower, I splash mine with water & put my brush to soak

I believe the 'soaking' advice to be a complete myth, but if it works for others then fair one.

For me, it works the same as all shaving soap - and in my experience it isn't nearly as hard as many hard soaps (Harris, Trumper and T&H).

Think it's the type of brush you use. Badger, I believe, seems to just hold water and I don't soak. Boar seems to need to soak in to the hair. So I soak it for a min or so while it setup my razor and soap.
