Darkest Hour.
Excellent. Gary Oldman deservedly won an Oscar for his portrayal of Churchill. What I really liked about his performance was his refusal to "mimic" the great man; he put his own subtle spin on Churchill's mannerisms and speech, which for me made it so much more tangible. And just quietly, a gem of a performance by one of my favourite Aussie actors, Ben Mendelsohn, as His Majesty King George VI.
Ben Mendelsohn was in one of my all-time favourite films, The Year My Voice Broke. A brilliant film.
Spot on, Rob - a superb film.
If you haven't seen it, “Mullet†is another wonderful Mendelsohn film that perfectly captures small-town Australia at the turn of the century. Another ripper is “Animal Kingdomâ€, where Mendelsohn is the archetypical Aussie thug - I grew up in a rough neighborhood, and Mendelsohn's performance is perfection.
the local cinema was showing 2001: a space odyssey tonight, so had a pop along. absolutely stunning film on the big screen.
