Poorly Chicken

Seriously, one of my birds is rather poorly. It has a messy back end and seems to be continually straining but I have had a feel internally and cannot find or feel a stuck or broken egg.
I will try and source some more information/supplements sometime today but the vet is not an option.

Any ideas before the chicken kicks the KFC bucket?

That doesn't sound too good. :(

You could try asking at the poultry forum

Hi

When I used to look after chickens, if one took i'll the vet again wasnt an option. So we used to do the kindest thing and wring its neck, the reason being is you dont want your hole coup coming down with the same illness.

I've been fighting an emotional and philosophical battle with the rest of the family about what to do but I'm not sentimental about them I'll give it a day or two and see what the forum's turn up then if there is no improvement it ringing time. I have separated them so hopefully no problems there, I like having them and eating fresh eggs but as soon as they start becoming high maintenance and not earning their keep that's it.

The chicken survives...

A TSR member asked me about the hen's welfare...heavy pressure and tears ensured that the chicken's neck didn't ring in the first few days of illness as daughter cleverly involved class mates and hen rescue became a class project.

I gave in and a few days of intensive care by the clan and some calcium supplements seemed to do the trick, no vet involved.

I am still not convinced the hen doesn't lay anything but shit but I am not sticking my fingers up its vent again.

Found the old girl dead this morning...she'd been exhibiting the same symptom's as before but I chose to do nothing about it.

In the bin, no one knows.

...I would have but "layer's" are like pregnant teens...all bun and no meat, good for reproduction and not much else.
