Pears / Wrights Soaps

In the early days of the 20th century, many people looked to the manufacturer for advice. Gillette's advice was to give your face a thorough wash with soap and warm water. The logic was that it would remove dirt and dead skin cells whilst softening the bristles. It was never suggested that the soap would be left on. That would leave the dirt and dead skin cells on your skin. No, rinsing is advisable.
I wash with Droyt's soap (accept no substitute), rinse off, and apply shaving soap/cream whilst the face is well wet.
I often think about shaving before I rinse the soap off, but then consider that I used to do that many years ago. That was because of poverty, and I didn't enjoy shaving then.
A bar of soap and a plastic wand. No wonder I thought shaving was a drudgery.
Now, I have more soap than I can get through. That doesn't stop me from trying.

I wash my face first. The Pears is just as a preshave treatment before passes, not ad a cleanser.

I've been using a bar of Pears Mint the last week as a preshave. I think I can notice a slight improvement in my shaves over that time frame. It also seems to have improved my post-shave face feel as well.

A giant difference? No, but a welcome one.

I recently purchased some Pears transparent soap, Wright's traditional and Dalan Olive oil.

These 3 soaps are superb to use for preshave.

The Pears produces such thick luxurious lather that it is difficult to wash off.

I use the Dalan in the shower. I think it has added glycerin.

The Wright's is just amazing, not quite like the old days but still pretty good.

I will definitely be purchasing more of all 3.

I have to admit despite being advised against Pears as a preshave I had long ago bought a bar and so decided to use it up rather than waste it. I have found that it is good for washing my beard and adds good slickness to my shaves when applied before the shaving soap. This approach does require more water than usual I have found. Although this approach needs much more testing, I have found that it performs at least as well as some of the Proraso preshaves I own and when paired with performance shaving soaps, it generates a wicked slickness. I'll use this one up before trying some of the other products such as Droyts. At its price point, I have found it to be a product worth trying at least rather than binning.

I've started using the wife's hair conditioner as a pre shave it works a treat ! And I've actually found it better than proraso. Just don't tell her she will go mental :eek::ROFLMAO:

No, don't ever bin a bar of soap. You can wash your feet, or bath with it. If it doesn't meet your shaving requirements, you can still wash your hands after using the toilet. Pears is better than supermarket cheapies.
