Having written the above I never answered your question regarding recommendations. Nobody can truly give you a truly unbiased answer so I will not try.
I genuinely believe that the Gillette 'New' is the gold standard in vintage DE OC razors, literally millions were sold they are IMHO fairly aggressive, the other vintage Gillette worth a try is the 'Old'; olds I find are a little milder, probably because they were designed for the early DE blades which were a good bit thicker, to replicate how they originally shaved you can use a shim.
There are very many sub models of both of the above razors but they all shave pretty similar.
I have very limited experience of modern stainless razors so will leave it to others to make a suggestion in that genre.
