I've tried a few open comb razors and just couldn't get on with them not because of the aggressiveness but because the feel. But I've had a R41 for the last month and love it and it's cheap for just the head maybe worth a try.
R41 is well worth a try, some say it's aggressive but I don't get that but this is where YMMV comes into play.+1 on the R41. Not as @Merkurologist says an open comb in the truest sense. But at 20 odd quid for the head well worth a try and one of my favourites.

LMFAO! I just spat tea all over my blinking phone.Hi there,
Ok, real quickly, OC types generally have more bite and it varies from each model. Means you gotta pay more attention to detail during the shave and often the blade is felt on your face more. Closer/smoother than usual results are common.
Best version to start with is a long tooth NEW. Not real aggressive but still plenty of skill is needed for a great shave. Skip the early Gillettes with the Old Type heads.....little bloodsucking vampire bastards.
Definitely worth spending some time sampling a few models,
Martin

Yes, I think you are quite correct in what you say, some think it's like its older brother but more have come to realise it's not so.Greetings
I am more and more thinking that I really should try the new R41, I hugely disliked the 2011 model but the more I read the more positive reviews there seem to be about the latest model. In the case of the 2011 model I think it would be quite fair to say that about three quarters of all the reviews were negative and it now looks like the situation has reversed and 75% of the reviews of the present model are positive. Is this a fair conclusion?
Regards
Dick.
Looks great, does it shave well?

Great stuff, looks good, shaves good, job done!Well SWMBO is away, there's only the cat for company (who's asleep), I found myself with nothing else to do so I warmed the face with a hot towel, slipped in new Wilkinson Sword blade, lathered up with 3P Almond soap and had a three way shave which has come out BBS and it's the first time in 10 years I've shaved in consecutive days...
Because handle has a bit of heft to it, it was an easy shave, applying no pressure to the head, allowing the blade to pass over the skin (as we're supposed to do I guess). I'll certainly keep using the head and can change between the handles to see which I prefer as they vary in length and weight - and the 3P almond soap (from Connaught Shaving) is very good.
