Noticeboards - cork, felt? Fibreboard/chipboard?

Hi Guys,

Bit of a strange subject.

I'm looking to get a Noticeboard for my partner's creche. Probably 2. Each being 900 x 600mm.

1 is to display a large-ish map of the world and the other is for general purpose (things to do, important dates and so on).

Anyone know the difference between felt and cork notice boards?
Someone told me that felt boards have cork underneath the felt. Am I right in guessing cork is the better option because you can see the 'damage' on felt boards?

Here's where we are stuck. We have a limited budget but we don't want to go down the really cheap route and get something that will definately break down. For example, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Five-Star-900x600-Cork-Noticeboard/dp/B000I2DS6S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=officeproduct&qid=1268225002&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Five-Star-900x6 ... 002&sr=8-1</a><!-- m -->

This looks good if it goes for a reasonable price and if we can cover the dents somehow. Maybe with some stickers.

Alternatively, I was thinking of picking up some kind of 'wooden' board from B&Q/Wickes etc. IS there any kind of board that is soft enough to let noticeboard pins go through it? Whilst also being not to heavy for putting up on a wall?
I took a look at various grades of chipboards in B&Q and the pin wouldn't go through any of them :(

Thanks for your help. Very much appreciated

Sundeala board is the stuff for making noticeboards, but I don't know if it's easily available except to the trade. Works very nicely with an MDF or ply backing, green baize over the top and a frame around it.

There's also a thick soft-ish cardboard, which has two advantages: easy to cut for a good fit and can be painted to match decor or for effect.

I'm watching this thread as I hope to get some large noticeboards in the church . . . . .

A pack of blu tack and a marker will do...

You know sharp things, kids, elf and safety, the marker is for drawing an outline so that you can pretend its a real notice board.

I can see the headlines now...

"Miracle cure found for psoriasis when notice board full of pins held up by blue tack falls on child in creche."

Thanks so far

Wanted it to look nice and the postings/map will last for much longer if they are on a notice board than stuck on with bluetac. We were goin to pin areas of the world the kids parents are from and where the kids would like to go etc.

Thanks Henk. Possibly. Although, it might be easier having a box of pins around rather than magnets. Plus we can colour-code the pins
