Was thinking about getting some proraso pre shave cream and some cheapy Witch Hazel for post... any thoughts on either of those would be great - they seem to be commonly used.

Witch hazel is good for post shave.

Pre shave? You're on your own, never used it as relied on the lather and hot shower.

Well I didn't use any today and didn't seem to be too much of a problem. Hopefully once I get the hang of the lather more could potentially protect a bit more. I know lots of people say that it gives a better final result if a pre-shave is used, although I'm happy with how it feels.

Yeah I just was trying to be careful not to carve up my face on the first outing, I'll probably try something different after a few goes with the Derby. Any recommendations for where to go next would be appreciated

@Giorgio Sterlini - As rowlers says, have a try of the other goodies in there as well as the DE89. There's no need to pass it on until someone else is interested in it.

Get some witch hazel, yes, but I'd also recommend a moisturiser - especially this time of year.

Can't remember exactly what I put in but, I'm fairly sure there are some Russian blades in there, Lada, Voskhod etc... give one of those a whirl... @Burgundy - what other razors made their way into the box?

A Slim Twist/Knack. There ought to be plenty of blades to be getting on with though!

I did suggest it. There are loads more blades in the little plastic clip bag. I also put some in there and the brush along with some soap samples and a stypyic stick. I think it will change with every person as folk use stuff and add to it. I thought there was some brilliant stuff in it.

Is it just me, or is passing around a styptic pencil a bit gross?
A tube of styptic gel maybe, but a pencil??

You know, the more I think about that...it is a little gross! Maybe I should've put some styptic gel or matches in there instead. @Giorgio Sterlini, you can keep the styptic stick
