Hi , got myself a Futur for christmas but the blade exposure is off a few mils , tried wiggling it into position and its only a fraction off at setting 1 but at setting 3 it springs back when trying to align it.
Is this a problem with all Futurs or am i just unlucky and got a duff one.
Great razor though , did give it a go using one side and the sound of the whiskers getting sliced is great.

Hi Leemk,

What is it that is springing back? the head cap or the blade?, not trying to sound like an idiot here but you are sure the blade is aligned right before the cap goes on and the pins engage in the blade holes?

Since the blade is covered at both ends by the cap there is no opportunity to wiggle the blade when the cap is on, the pins usually push the blade into the perfect position. Mine is equal on both sides and they all should be this way. Over on B&B I have read of this problem before but as always you read about the small number who have an issue and not the thousands that have no issue at all. I am not excusing it but rather just saying that compared to how many razors they sell it is not a systemic problem with the brand or razor. There are a number of guys here with a Futur and none report this issue.

None the less it is wrong, take it back and get it fixed, it is after all a double edged razor and you should be able to use both edges ;)

Yes, I've had to slip some slithers of metal down the sides of the head to make sure the blade sits squarely.

Pain in the ass, yes, but it still provides a great shave.

You will more than likely be palmed off to deal straight with Merkur, my razor demonstrated this problem over the course of a couple of months so you might have more luck with the original vendor. If not go through the Merkur site, http://www.dovo.com/_english/kontakt.html.

Let us know how you get on fella.

Contacted the seller and he is going to exchange it .

Did see somewhere on the net about somone who put some thin metal shims on it to sought it out , but the head on my one twists slightly as well as moving back and forth .
Wasnt too bad at setting 1 , but at setting 3+ i could align the head so the blade was pretty even on either side but as soon as i let go of the head it would move a few mils (from the tension of the big spring in the middle i think , not the two wires) .
Just hope they are not all like this and i am being too picky , i know on my slim adjustable sometimes i had to help the blade be even , but only by a fraction.

The fact that the head wobbles says there is definitely something far wrong, good to hear the seller is swapping it. Let us know if your replacement is better, I hope it is because the Futur is one brilliant razor.

Certainly don't feel that you are being picky Lee. Merkur are one of , if not the, biggest player in this specialised end of the market. They've built a really good rep on their build, design and general high quality. I'm pleased that the vendor is offering a replacement without fuss as this helps to reinforce the general "feelgood" I've got about suppliers of this type of kit. In the years of buying shaving supplies (mostly from people who feature in our TSR list) I've not had poor or problematic service from any of them. Probably because they're enthusiasts themselves.

I hope the replacement Futur is a good 'un.

Got It back yesterday , this ones a lot better than the other one .
Blade gap is pretty even (still needs a tiny wiggle of the head to align the blade with the guard properley) and the head is a lot steadier so doesnt move from side to side.
Gave it a whirl this morning with a yellow 7oclock on setting 1 without a hitch , going to up it .5 for tomorrow.
Can definately see this putting my slim adj into retirement.

the cap moves a mm or 2 on mines but it's not a problem. The blade is held firmly enough to give me an awesome shave.

I start with a gillette yellow on 3 for the first pass, on 6 for the second then back to 3 for any touch ups. Nothing else I have gives me a closer smoother shave.
