Men-u Pure Bristle (Boar) Shaving Brush

Hi chaps,

I received the Men-u Pure Bristle brush from another member a while back. The little cheapo men-u was ace in my opinion - good backbone and the tips felt great. It has that wonderful stiffness and softness on face balance that my badger provides. I am badger through and through but the men-u comes in handy for the occasions I use MWF or when travelling.

I passed on the men-u brush to a new member a few months ago and recently, I felt like picking up another men-u. I recently popped into boots and the brush hairs felt totally different.

Have they changed the bristles? Can anyone with one of the original men-u pure bristle brushes verify this please? It could just be me.
Also, are there any brushes that are virtually the same as this brush? Not interested in the vulfix 404, (high end) Semogue (or anything dissimilar to the pure bristle men-u.

Thank you,

RSJ

ps. Inevitably, I was going to ask: do any of you have a spare men-u pure bristle lying about not getting any love?

It sounds like you are comparing a broken in brush to an unsued one. The bristle will soften once broken in & unless there has been a major change from Men-u it should end up like your "old" one.

Hey Fozz.

I liked the men-u pure bristle from day 1, and it was new when I received it.

If they haven't changed the bristles, which is probably the case, then most likely I'll end up buying one or posting on BST.

Cheers.

Yes, I've been told this but have no idea which omega is the EXACT same one.

I found this one:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Omega-Professional-Bristle-Shaving-Brush/dp/B0030GB3Q6/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1289402566&sr=8-9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Omega-Professio ... 566&sr=8-9</a><!-- m -->

and also there is the 31064, which some people say is the same thing. But from Fido's review, it doesn't seem to be a replica of the men-u, because I remember it not being floppy. Infact, it stood up really well when wet :shock:

Update: I've put a request on bst: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://theshavingroom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5466" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5466</a><!-- l -->
It could just be me, but the men-u brush i saw in boots recently felt very different and looked a bit different too. Had the same 'pure bristle' label + freebie plastic stand in the box too.

are you sure you didn't see the synthetic one this time

probably not, too big a price difference to get them mixed up

Hey mate. Nope, definately not the synthetic.

Although, I've tried that one as well.

Omega make two similar brushes:

00065

Although the handles are the same the bristles are different. The striped bristle is treated more & is a bit softer & more flexible than the blonde bristle.

The red handle Omega 10049 & the 31064 are two other bristle types that Omega offer but are much larger than the 65/Men-U brush.

Also your old brush may have been broken in, so a new brush will always feel different.
