Maglites

Morning all,

I have a Maglite (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.maglite.com/product.asp?psc=2DCELL" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.maglite.com/product.asp?psc=2DCELL</a><!-- m -->) that I picked up a couple of years back - it's a 2D so a fairly hefty one, but even with new batteries it's not actually that bright. I tried a non-branded LED option, but that just resulted in a dim blue glow.

As a security item it's ideal, as you could pummel a would-be attacker without a scratch, but it does suck a bit as a torch (which for me is admittedly the primary function).

Anyone upgraded or got tips?

Chris

I have a MagLED-3D and a MagLED-2AA - they're fantastic... last for months (not one battery change through winter on dog walks of about 1h per day in the dark). The octogenarian out the back commented that he'd not seen a light like it since the war :D Was only about £30 the pair full price (but I got them on a half-pricer - wish I'd bought more now :roll:)

They've stopped selling the official MagLED bulbs so you can only get one by buying a new torch :roll:

Got the same myself, Mag 2xD cell. As you say a bit hefty and drains the batteries real quick. I find more expensive batteries (duracell) last longer. Mine is still on original bulb after 15 years, its been dropped in a pond, and used as an impromptu hammer etc, so really well made. Just a thought, have you twisted the head where the bulb is, this opens and closes the beam and could be your issue.

When I found this site it brought to mind Father Ted on Craggy Island looking across at his counterparts on Rugged Island. Different people but with definite similarities. :lol:

As a Train Driver i have some Railway issue Bardic Lamps,the newer ones are more akin to a bicycle lamp but the older ones are a hefty bit of kit,great torch and virtually indestructible. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.footplateequipment.co.uk/brbardiclamp.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.footplateequipment.co.uk/brbardiclamp.shtml</a><!-- m -->

Bloody 'ell, a forum where people talk about flashlights & stuff. That's nearly as bad as those other forums where people talk about razors and shaving and things :shock:

Niteze drop in Leds are not bad for general purpose and give a greatly improved run time but brightness is not really any better.

You would probably be better off buying a Fenix L2D or LD20 in the long run , expensive but top notch :idea:

I am issued the re-chargeable Maglite. If it hit anyone it would kinda, well....just about kill them.
It comes with the recharging unit and is bloody bright. Looks like the bat signal when you shine it into the sky.
Regards performance? change the bulbs frequently I think it is the manufacturers bulbs that we use.

Regards

Stop girling about with those pencil torches. You want lighthouse power and at least 10 million candelas.
