LAN socket extension?

Hello networking techno peeps.

I recently changed domestic broadband provider (don't ask) and they issued me a cheapo modem router that does the job well enough but only has one LAN socket. I need more LAN sockets, one for printer, satelite, PC etc.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the right info to reconfigure my old Belkin modem router (neither Belkin or the provider want to help) so I was wondering if there such a thing as a LAN extension socket that I could just plug in to extend what I have.

Is a network switch a bit overkill, what's available?

Ah...found an ethernet 5 port desktop hub/switch that looks like it will do?

Thanks in advance.

i have a BT Home hub and have one of these connected to it :

set something else similar up for my Dad in his spare room, they have the Router downstairs connected to a powerline Network adapter
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Belkin-Powerl...K_Computing_Networking_SM&hash=item2eb0c2b09d
and then one of these 5 port hubs connected to the other powerline adapter upstairs...

A cheapo ebay 5 port switch will sort you out

Though if you use ADSL and it's delivered to your house via overhead lines, get ready to lose some speed because the powerline stuff is radiating at just the right frequencies to interfere...

As for "the best powerline network" - that's like saying the best Lada  Cat5E at a minimum, preferably Cat6. Glad I floodwired this house whilst it was being built :ugeek:

very tru about cat 6.....my house is done with it....the only way to do it

and there again my line is underground and 40mb/s... :D
