Need some help, is this a Gillette old type single ring?

Cheers Blades, but I don´t think so. I was wondering what seperates an Old Type from an Old Type Single Ring, or if they´re the same?

Here´s a better pic of the number:

What!? No one ... Here´s another pic of bottom part of the handle and the text there says "Pat. Nov: 15:04", I think.

This is a 1918 Single Ring. Numbering is in a different place.

Any help here?

Cheers Peter! I only looked at Mr Razor, but Joe had some more bits.

Ok, this is how far I´ve come:
- Late models don´t have serial numbers (after 1921).
- When written on the comb, like on Peters razor, it´s old but the oldest has writings on the pole thingy.
- From Joes site it seems like they started to date with A:s, then B:s and so on (even though he hasn´t got an A-numbered razor).
- But on Mr razors site it´s more of a mix with the numbers, but this one seems to be in the same ball park:

Do you know, Peter, if all old types with the same ring as ours´re "Single rings"?

Hiya,

That head is what has me stumped. Years ago I went through an OC phase that included lots of Gillettes and a couple other types. The head design looks vaguely familiar, but I can't think from where. I'm thinking it may be a UK version of some kind.

I can't recall using a razor with those kinda teeth, but then again, my brain keeps getting more and more squishy. Still, that's an unusual head style I woulda probably remembered.

Heh, good luck getting this little monkey off your back,

Martin

Hi there,

I believe the term 'Old Type' refers to the head design. There's a bunch of razors such as a Single Ring and Bulldog with the Old Type heads. This was the earliest version if I'm not mistaken. I'm fairly sure the term Single Ring refers to the handle style only.

I think the next generation was the NEW head, followed by the NEW Improved.

Hope that helps,

Martin

Hiya Martin!

Thanks! From what I heard and read, from you, you wouldn´t like this one. It´s suposed to be a very aggressive razor. My head works in mysterious ways, I´ve been told, so no worries re heads :D I´ll get it straight eventually.

Edited: Thanks again Martin, I think you´re right re the design of the handle and if so, this should be a Single ring Old type ... I guess

Yeah, you're right about that razor maybe having too much of a bite for me. I know the Old Type razors about kill me, no matter how much technique tweaking I attempt. Even using a milder than usual blade only helps a little bit. Yeah, I wish those fit me better because there's some great looking Old Type versions.

Your handle may be a Single Ring one, but I can't say what the head might be from.

Your handle may be a Single Ring one, but I can't say what the head might be from. More I look at that head, it might be one I could use in relative comfort. Yeah, it's got very long curved teeth, which might make it a smoother ride than the Old Type head. I have a few long tooth OC types in my rotation, so some do fit me. Yeah, that razor would be worth a try if I ran across one. Looks to be more head heavy than usual, which can be a good thing.

I'll be curious as to how it fits you,

Martin

I think I´ll try her out tomorrow morning :D but I also think it´s an Old type head (they don´t fit anything else then that handle, I think).

Hi Mikael, this site may be of use to you?

Thank you Steve! That was the last puzzle piece :D So it dates from 1908 and is an Old Type with a single ring handle :D
