I've finally managed to bag something half decent. (I think) Restoration is not for me.

Tell me it ain't so.

Thanks, I took a bit of a punt on it but it looks in good shape, I will post better pictures when it arrives.

They came through, I probably paid too much, there's a bit of surface corrosion on the spine but nothing to worry about.
The Gong is 13/16 half hollow, the Thomas Turner is 5/8 full hollow to my untrained eye. Hone wear is light, slight taper on the Gong and smile on the Turner, any further information on these would be much appreciated.

They do not pass any hair tests, so it's Miller Time.

Got your pm Tony - thanks!

A little info:

Thomas Turner: founded circa 1802 by Thomas Turner. When the founding Thomas Turner died his son, also called Thomas, took over. Brothers Benjamin and William helped. TT junior became Master Cutler in 1871. He left over £55,000 gross when he died in 1916. When he retired in 1893 he sold the busines to Albert Hobson, a scissor maker, who also bought up Wade, Wingfield & Co. Hobson became Master Cutler in 1902. TT became a Ltd company in 1918 and in 1919 was bought up by an amalgamation headed by Needham, Veall & Tyzack (Taylor Eye Witness). The depression brought an end to TT and it went bankrupt, its stock being bought up by Viners.

The Gong razor is german, made C. Friedrich Ern in Solingen-Wald. They had a slew of brands, including Es-Ex, King George, Liliput, Justrite, Junk(!), Raccoon, and Crown & Sword to mention a few, Who could forget their very-nearly disastrously named 'Niazi' razor - Stainless Steel, probably.

Regards,
Neil

Thanks very much Neil...The Gong has a particularly nice weight and feel to it, I look forward to getting them back.

They both look really nice Tony. Good haul there. I am still a bit dubious about making bids on straights on ebay as i don't want to pay well over the odds for something that isn't even "Millerable"

I know what you mean but I'd paid under the odds for rubbish before so I thought I'd do the opposite.

I thought the ebay photo of the Peerless was very poor, and nasty suspicious person that I am I wondered whether it was hiding something. Apparently not, so money well spent Tony. I'm not inclined to use ebay myself, but to make an informed judgment about the state of a razor I'd want to see photos of both sides of the blade, sharply focussed and taken without flash. More on this from veteran sniper Olivia here:

Also, I'm disappointed with Pigcat. I set up the most crass double entendre possible for him, and he doesn't follow it up. Maybe he thought it was beneath him. Thanks to Cheese Dave for upholding the standards I've come to expect in his absence.
