Help : Gillette Razor Identification

I acquire this today but am unsure as to what it is, or how old it may be.
It came in an ornate brass box - of which I have no photo - lining is badly decayed.

I have attached a few photos of the razor itself. Which would obviously be helpful for purposes of identification.

Cheers

If the blade bed is flat - it's a 1920s New Improved... if as it looks like it's curved, it's an Old.

If it has a serial number on there at all, that will help you date it (pre-1921 Old, New Improved).... if it has patent markings and a curved blade bed it's also pre-1921, post-1921 the Old was still sold, but without patent marks (as the patent had expired by then)

Cheers Hunnymonster,

Blade bed is curved. Blade bed underside has 'Made in Canada' with Gillette Logo. Blade bed upper has the numbers 309132. They are the only markings.

Many thanks

Does the box look like this?

If it's pre-1921, I think it should have the thinner head and cap. I'll see about taking a photo of the two types together so you can see which you've got.

Well, I'd say after 1915 because of the gillette diamond on the right side but before 1921. Because of the design of the ball on the end and the location of the diamond. Interesting one. You know I'd even say before 1917 because of the diamond. The WW1 ones I believe all had the diamond on the left.
Good luck. Hope mine ideas helped.

So much knowledge - it's impressive :)

I've uploaded a picture of the box in the OP ....

The trailing 2 is definitely a two

Again, thanks for your time and thoughts

Is it silver plated? I just looked up smooth ball end Old Types and found this one:

Though most of the razor is brass there are remnants of plating - which is definitely silver in colour.
