Hello from the home of Edwin Jagger!

Hi there folks!

I'm new to this forum having found it whilst looking to purchase my first-ever DE blade. I've been on Badger & Blade for almost two years now and it's great to have finally found myself a more English site on which to satisfy the most gentlemanly of pursuits! I've been reading reviews left, right and centre and I have finally opted for an Edwin Jagger DE89 though the handle colour is still up for debate! However, the accoutrements which will complete my new-look bathroom shelf have yet to be finalised and that is where I hope the assistance of this rabble may prove invaluable.

This stand is absolutely beautiful and is precisely what I'm looking for as an all-in-one solution to hold my razor, brush and bowl as I am partial to lathering in a bowl as opposed to on my face. However, I am very tempted by this bowl should I opt for the black-handled DE89. With that in mind, does anyone know of a stand which will accommodate a Jagger Best Badger brush (in medium size, I suspect), as well as the aforementioned razor and bowl (preferably with the brush above it) for a price rather considerably less than that of the Edwin Jagger stand?

And, furthermore, I shall indulge you all by allowing you to throw recommendations my way as to what creams I ought to be looking for - consider that I am (relatively) young at just 22, poor (again by virtue of my age!) and new to this past-time having only now finally made the choice to dump my Boots razor!

What an introduction/overview of my reason for being here.

All the best!

Hello Astraeus & welcome to TSR. It looks like you are starting off nicely.

You would not go too far wrong with the Body shop cream & Palmolive shave sticks. Both are reasonably priced, Palmolive is awsome for the price, & readily available. A good place to look online would also be Connaught shaving. Paul carries a superb range of products at a great price. If you are new to the DE world I recommend you treat yourself to the blade sampler packs available their too.

Expensive stuff you have in mind

This will work a better lather

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://connaughtshaving.com/chinacup.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://connaughtshaving.com/chinacup.html</a><!-- m -->

and you will find wide bowled china cups even cheaper if you look locally.

if you really want a branded item look here

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/shaving-mug/s/qid=1268448369/ref=sr_nr_seeall_16?ie=UTF8&keywords=shaving%20mug&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ashaving%20mug%2Ci%3Adrugstore" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/shaving-mug/s/q ... Adrugstore</a><!-- m -->

I like the Muhle with the handle - white is better than black, which shows all the soap residues.

One of these brush stand is all you need.

Cream? Palmolive in the green tube from Boots, Superdrug and many supermarkets. £1.25?
You will find Erasmic cream on sale in some chemists and discount stores.

I have just saved you a fortune!

Greetings Astraeus, welcome to TSR.

Pretty much anything of the right size and shape will do for making lather in so you have a huge choice available. My preference is for something which won't break if I happen to drop it, so it's a cheap plastic bowl from Asda. Most of the time I don't even use that, except to soak the brush.

Since you ask for cream recommendations, I'm going to lay myself open to howls of derision from the big spending crowd and suggest you have a look in the Pound shop. Real Shaving Co. cream is perfectly satisfactory in the first instance; whilst you're getting started with that you could check out the decant club and get a few samples - see this thread:

Finally, a resounding +1 on the blade sampler pack.

Paul's a member here and it's a great way to try before you buy

Ha, a slip of the tongue, I assure you!

I shall look at Close Shave, have read many good things about Paul at Connaught so it'd be only fair to offer him my measly pound. Any specific recommendations for which to try - I hear good things about Taylor Sandalwood and Rose from certain people whilst others deride the stuff. I shall make a move to procure some Palmolive and get cracking with that once my birthday (and the occasion for these purchases) rolls around a fortnight yesterday!

Musgo Real, Speick and a DR Harris would be my first 3

the rest is up to you, Taylors is worth a try as you can get it in TK Maxx if you like it.
the lads will chip in who have more experience of the others on offer.

oh yes, almost forgot, Connaughts own cream is also one to try ;)

Hello and welcome

There are some great value creams. You will find some for below £2, but if you can get to a TK Maxx you may find some TOBS creams for around a fiver - old stock from somewhere but a quality hard to beat.

Hello Astraeus, and welcome to TSR.

Seeing as you hail from Sheffield, it would be criminal not to own an Edwin Jagger. A Titan among razors -- simply beautiful. I have a DE87 (ivory handle). I also have a feeling that a DE 89L (lined chrome handle) might be joining it very shortly.
