GUNK!

I haven't tried it, but didn't surprised to hear that it is good. Just think about it, shaving products is a multi million if not multi billion industry and lots of effort, research etc.. goes in to it. The ideal lather in gel or foam form is ready in a pressurized can, to be honest I don't see the point of discussing how the traditional products are better then modern products, I think they are different things.

The only goo/gunk I have is Barbasol Original. I lather it up with a bit of water, because straight from the can I find it a bit too thick.

It's pretty good! No match for my creams and soaps. But it's so good that I could use it every day and be happy about it.

I'd be so bold to concur, that if you find the canned Gillette better than soaps/creams, then you're definitely lathering wrong. It took me over 2 years to realize that my consistency was all over the place, but also that a synthetic is that much easier to use.

Work on technique :)

today i shaved with my sons Gillette aerosol gel sensitive gunk for experimental purposes and to be honest it was good. it seems more slick than my creams and soaps so i think i might not be lathering properly. Anyone else have a view or experienced this and do you think its bad lathering?
thank you

...I use to use Nivea sensitive gel many moons ago; performane was good, it worked well for me. That said I much prefer tallow hard soaps. Your technique maybe sound; is it worth worth giving things a shake-up to see...different brush, or soap perhaps?

more than 10 years, the only canned foam I tried is the free one came in Blue Stratos Edt. I tried it and it wasn't good. But that is not the point for me, I use traditional shaving products because I like them and also I don't have to shave every morning as a matter of fact I don't even have to have a clean shave for work. I can shave when ever I want and perhaps that is the main reason(luxury of not shaving in a hurry) that I can take my time and enjoy a good, long and relaxed shave. Probably my idea of shaving would be completely different if I had to shave every morning.

Interesting this but I am getting much better slickness from both veggie (Nanny's Wickham's Prorasso) and Tallow (OSP and P&B) shaving soaps than I did with the old Nivea Sensitive Gel I used to use. That was gloopy but did not have the fatty feel you get from vegetable or animal fat in the specialist soaps. It did take me a while to get the lather right though. As someone told me here: thick glue like on end of damp brush and add water as necessary. Plus I beat and whisk in the scuttle for a good minute.

I think it really depends on the soaps you are using. There are some really bad soaps out there. Like garbage bad. When a really good soap is lathered properly, it is so slippery it is hard to hold on to things.

In my book, nothing wrong with using cans if you like the stuff. Some of it is pretty slick stuff. It is your face, you should shave it the way you like.

I think you could well be correct in saying that you was pretty sure you wasn't spending enough time on building your lather, we all whisk at different speeds but I would say I would take maybe four to five minutes on building my lather in my bowl adding small amounts of warm water as I go, maybe adding half a tea spoon of water per minute and the time will vairy depending on what brush I am using. I use OSP, P&B , Tabac, Wickhams and use the same method with all of them, I would call it a steady whisk, not so fast that it wears me out! :) YMMV!

SOME of the artificial stuff in a tube or can can be rather slippery. As slippery as a politician trying to avoid answering congress about missing emails.....

But at the same time you should ask yourself if you get adequate protection from the razor as you use these artificial products. These products ARE intended to be used with razors containing built in lube/moisturizing strips contained topical numbing agents..
