Gold plated razors - which were the first?

I've luckily just received an English Bostonian (NEW Improved) through the post, after a quick spritz this razor looks like it was always brass and never plated and being made in 1917 you might expect that but they did silver plate them. A quick look through Mr Razors site indicates to my untrained eye that most of the razors of this era are indeed left in brass rather than being gold plated so dat's the question. Who was the first Liberace?

Well to get you started I have this one. It is a 1930 "Windsor Gold Plated New Set".
But my earlier stuff is silver plated..........

Was that razor on the Bay? I saw one there a few days ago.

It wouldn't surprise me if the first goldies were American Tech's or those awful US Aristocrats.

They're the earliest gold 'uns I've owned.

Nope the one on ebay was about £50.00, I got this one of Frenchblade.........mind you the one on ebay has been on there for a while ......think he just re-lists it in the hope someone will pay that much for it........ ;) ;)

Not that keen on gold razors, bought this one to see how it shaves, prefer Rhodium plated..........

Saw one on eBay that went for £8 the other day - just listed as an 'old Gillette' and the box interior was really tatty. I had a punt, but wasn't that interested in it to get into a bidding war in the dying seconds. Wished I had when I saw the winning price!

Dat's the one, I'll post a pic later.

Loved the Aristocat's...They don't make em like that no more, I mean cats with no arse holes.

I'll have to explain that to the oiks.

Not sure when they started plating them, it is hard to tell the brass from the gold on just pictures alone. I do have a copy of the collectors handbook by Phillip Krumholz, will have a look in it later and see if there is any reference. I have to confess I tend to stay away from gold razors. I have two gold ones (one Toggle and a SE), the rest are all silver/chrome.

I think the New Improved is one of the nicest looking vintage DE's out there, I love the handle and the knurling pattern but I find the one I have quite a harsh shaver.
