For the Soap specialists: Can these be used as shaving soap?

Hi all,

As a new fan of soaps, I found these BODY soaps in a local store. The ingredients looked similar to shaving soap ingredients. One is for Palmolive Body Soap and the other is by the company 'Simple'.

They smelled nice, and the Palmolive one looks like it contains a drop or two of of (olive?) oil.
Will these soaps be any good for shaving?

no good. Thin, non-lasting lather. Buy a proper shaving soap instead. Really.

Nope. They both ARE true soaps, but as Frederick said, body soaps will generate thin to adequate, but very short-lasting lathers. No good for shaving.

If you were thinking about Palmolive body soap then why not just get a Palmolive shaving stick?

Yes it might seem that the body soap is cheaper at about £1.10 (Asda) for 4x100g bars but the shaving stick is still under 50p (again using Asda as a pricing guide) and I'd be willing to wager that £1 worth of shaving stick will last you longer than £1 worth of the body soap.

Plus as previously mentioned, the body soap won't produce the right lather for shaving with.

Thanks for the link and replies. Very useful information.

I wasn't interested in saving any dosh! It's just that the soaps smelled nice. Getting bored of Tabac and Palmolive scents.

After reading Henk's brilliant post (see link) I now realise those body soaps do not contain a base.
