Falcon Wilkinson Sword Blades

I read a review of the Sputnik blades from a teen many years ago in Russia who used em..nothing else..he said they were cheap, "ok" quality at best..and got the job done!..

The Sputniks (once I got used to them) are not that bad - and at 5p a blade are up there on my "buy em and use em while you can" They shave OK, not brilliant, but not as bad as say, Supermax browns on day 3.

The Falcons have me intrigued as they are stamped "Made by Wilkinson Sword" I wonder if they will be as good as the old UK Wilkis - I doubt it, but I can hope (if they are I have 3 weeks shaving in those blades).

enjoy the freebies while they last!...Nacet is another Russian blade..as I read about a good blade..but depends on the user cause they are pretty cheap.

Nacet was never a Russian brand - still isn't - it was swallowed up by Gillette years ago, previously made in England, Czech Republic and now like all other Gillette DE brands in Europe moved to ZAO Petersburg Products for manufacture (and I think - at least temporarily - discontinued)

Well Gentlemen....

The Falcon - rather good.

Its what I would describe as a ridgid blade, far less flexible and thin feeling than the 7 O'clocks, the Thins and the Bic's (which surprised me with their flimsy feelingness).
It comes double wrapped - the outer wrapper is red with black printing proclaiming that the Falcon is made by Wilkinson Sword (with the WS trademark crossed swords) the back proclaims it to be made in Brazil.
An inner wax wrapper is plain, the blade is marked Falcon and then below the middle Wilkinson Sword (again with the crossed sword logo).

This reminds me very much of the old UK wilkis.
Its not by any stretch the sharpest tool in the box, but gave a very good 2 pass and touch up with no irritation which is what I used to get from the old UK Wilkis - where the acid test is is in its longevity. Shave 2 today also gave an uneventful 2 pass and touch up of the chin & neck again with no nicks or irritation.
I will update as the week goes on and try to post a couple more decent photos.

Day 3 and exactly the same performance as yesterday. Im applying a little more pressure with the Ikon and the Falcon Blade than I would normally do with say a Yellow blade, but on day three the end result is exactly the same as day one and two.... What will day 4 hold?

Comparing the Vintage Wilkinson, The Euro Wilkinson, the Falcon Wilkinson and the Crown Red Stripe (which is supposed to be made on the old UK Wilkinson machinery)

Day 4 - Still a very acceptable 2 pass and touch up.
Again, applying slightly more pressure than I would normally with the Ikon, but the results are good - no irritation, no rough patches.

Day 5 - had to do a three pass and touch up (chin) to get the same closeness today. I wouldnt want to push the blade to day 6 - that said once again, no nicks or irritation - quite a pleasant result, but a definate loss of sharpness now that we have reached 5 shaves.

Of course if this was wartime Britain I would be trying to hone it using a glass jar and extend its use, but it was resigned to the blade bin today and replaced with a Crown Red Stripe for comparing with tomorrow.
