A senior aid to the Pope basically sates that the paedophilia problems that afflicted the Catholic Church are not related to celibacy but are in fact due to homosexuality?!?!?!

Now I'm not gay but I still find that kind of attitude scary and offensive, I understand that the Vatican is now going into damage limitation and saying that the comments were misunderstood, but providing the translation was "correct" how misunderstood could they have been?

Their PR machine needs a little work, for sure. That's a terrifying thing for someone to say in this day and age. "It's not the celibates, it's the gays, everyone knows they're perverts". For crying out loud.

Come on... it's an improvement over the past...

PS: Don't forget the soft cushions and comfy chairs... no one expects them!

What can we do to work God's work,
To prosper and increase
The brotherhood of all mankind,
The reign of the Prince of Peace?
What can we do to hasten the time,
The time that shall surely be,
When the earth shall be filled
With the glory of God
As the waters cover the sea.

Er...bum-shag some choirboys? :?

The last one could possibly persuade me to attend every Sunday.

As a practising Catholic and a person, I find the Vatican's siege ( "they are all out to get us" ) mentality sickening and disgusting. They have really pulled up the drawbridge on this one. I didn't watch the vid on the OP, I think that I can guess the gist of it.

The paedo's and those involved in the cover ups should be caught and criminally prosecuted, no matter how high up the chain we have to go. As they should in any walk of life. The victims should be compensated and begged for forgiveness. Then, maybe we can move on once the abusers have been outed and a little humility learned by the Vatican. No big religious discussion required. Just do what is right.

To answer the title of the thread. I'd rather we didn't.

Great post RB73

Fair enough I've not seen debate, here, on current affairs which is why I asked.

What got me was this story was featured high up the morning radio news bulletins but by teatime it was dropped and didn't make the TV news. How come it suddenly isn't newsworthy any more?

Sorry Jeltz. I'm sure lots of guys love a good debate, and I don't have a problem with that. I actually quite enjoy reading them. I'm just not bright or articulate enough to get involved

I think it's just this particular topic that I feel uncomfortable with. So I'll back off and let you get on with it.

i don't know the answer to this question, but do 'straight' molesters abuse girls & 'gay' molesters abuse boys?

to be honest they are all going to hell (along with the people who sell the socialist worker, bastard rovers supporters, prius drivers, smug vegans, anyone in heat magazine, politicians regardless of flavour and the self-righteous who judge others - oh crap!) in a handcart anyway we should just speed up the process!

I was brought up to go to church as a child and into my younger teenage years and in my older teenage years I stopped going for my own reasons.

I moved down to the Glasgow area when I was 17/18 and all of a sudden down here it's a big thing between protestants/catholics and I just don't get it.

I have no problem with religion or religious beliefs my issues were with the "church" organisation. 10 different churches all saying their way is the right way etc.

Upon thinking about it more and growing up a bit I believe that the Big G and JC would have moved with the times a bit (no meat on friday, unmarried couples living together etc) and I genuinely believe that what Smell The Glove said is what it should be about, Just doing what is right.

P.S. I've noticed that some sites would delete this thread for being a "Hot Topic"
