Date code on a Tech

I've aquired what seems to be a British aluminium hadled tech, on the underside of the bottom plate is the code 4 W, what date is this, as I thought the system was letter then number?

Not always...rather there's normally a letter and a number present and British ones only got date codes late on (early 1970s)
