i dont know too much about vintage gillettes, but i would love a bostonian. there looks like one on the bay at the mo with a case, someone has already bid 20 quid on it tho...

i think someone from here managed to win one for about a tenner a little while ago, it looked well tarnished, i did bid on that one, but lost out with my mean little bids :icon_rolleyes:

if the purchaser is reading this, did you manage to clean it up, or maybe wanna sell it on perhaps, in the new year?

The tarnished one may have been me 280755894236?

The teeth were slightly crooked - quickly (and gently) fixed, aside from a bit of discolouration it's in good nick & no cracks! (very unusual)

I've been using it for a week or so now, and have to say it's very nice to shave with.

Weight and distribution are nice.
Not too aggressive - but unforgiving with too much pressure.
Bit picky with angle.

thank you for your reply, yep definitely sounds like you won the one i was talking about, sounds like youve done a good job with it too :)

not sure if the one on ebay is in in its original case, but the pattern on the razor handle is very distinctive, is it the same as yours? its not listed as a bostonian, cheers, rick.

The difference between a 1920s New Improved and a Bostonian is the box... there are also at least 2 variants of the head - one that leaves virtually no blade gap when fully tightened and one that leaves quite a pleasant blade gap. They shave completely differently...

The "no gapper" (mine's a 1927/28 model) can be given a gap (of your choice) by loosening the handle by up to 1/4 turn and letting the spring of the blade provide enough tension to maintain the gap. You can of course do this on the other one but the gap gets to be quite ferocious quite quickly :)

Incidentally none of the New Improveds I've personally seen have had any cracking at all to the handle - I think that's mostly a feature of the "Old".

woops, looks like mistaken identity, this is what i thought was a bostonian, but distinctly different to yours, still a very nice razor tho.... No 190617862266...

That would be right in that case.

Hence why it says "Case Made in USA" - not just made in USA

My British Bostonian had the case made in the USA, and the razor in England. The razor was destined for the Aus market.

It's not worth $50 in it's current condition IMHO - there are plenty of these going about.

If you can hand on till after the new year I might have one going.

Hi recently bought a "Tuckaway" ( no case) and it's a fine little shaver. If you get it for a good price you may like it. I think the Tuckaway is a better razor. Photo of both. Tuckaway is the shorter handle.

Ok photos didn't attach again. Second try!
