Bank account details

If you provide someone with your sort code and account number they can transfer money direct to your bank account.

Some people worry about giving this information to a stranger with whom they are about to do business.

Is caution justified in this case?

If you send a cheque to someone, you give them your name, sort code, account number and the name and address of your bank.

What risks are we taking by giving sort codes and account numbers? And cheques to people?

I've paid and been paid for items through DBT without problems and it's free amongst UK banks and processed within a few hours. As you say sending a cheque reveals just as much information and to access your account directly they should need other security details that only you should know.

Change your security password Fido, Belladdict is too obvious.
