2nd shave the best?

I've noticed several times that the 2nd shave with some blades is better than the 1st.

Having only been DE shaving 8 weeks it might be coincidence (better prep etc) or is it normal?

Actually what you've said makes very good sense, the blades which I find give the best shave 1st time out only last me 2 shaves before I want to toss them where as those which give the best shave on the 2nd outing last me 3 shaves.
 
Feather blades are notorious for being a tad savage straight out of the paper & for coming to a grinding halt on the 4th or 5th shave.
 
To quote some American on B&B, SMF, TSD or wherever:

"Blades are like pizza, best on their second day".

I think it's actually true (though I wouldn't know about pizza). Hence the 'corking' some guys like to do.
 
i'll add soup and mince to that observation :cool:

merkurs don't get better no matter what shave it is
and i'm starting to feel that way about Derbys

Grilled Fish, not tried it but imagine it would not be nice.

Certainly some blades feel smoother on the 2nd shave, but I find extra care with technique, prep and lather with sharper ones like Feathers means the 1rst shave can be a sensational one; very few strokes and passes to get equally as good results.
