1940's USA Aristocrat

Just had a really good shave with what I believe is a very under rated razor - the 1940's USA One piece Aristocrat

I'd say it's about as aggressive as my SA on 7

It has a very nice weight & feel to it.

The gold finish is very shiny & bright. The mechanism feels smooth & direct.

They don't seem very popular at the moment, so you can pick up a boxed one for about £30 on ebay (from USA).

There are a couple of different versions. I have this one.

Hiya,

I gotta agree with the OP about the performance, look, and feel of these types of razors. I'd be using some President/Aristocrat/Diplomat model as my go to razor if I hadn't found the fatboy a while back. All three in that group shave about the same, which is great if those fit you.

I use a few gold plated razors in my rotation, and it seems like the plating was thicker in the early days. It's not unusual to find these late 40s-early 50s models with very little color missing, with only the laquer being a bit worn through. Another reason for the thicker plating may have been because the razors were a higher end item than most other types like the Tech for example. As the OP mentioned, $50 or so will get you a nice cased piece if you're patient.

Last few shaves have been with the 1946-47 Aristocrat. Not all of these shave the same, and this is one that fits me about perfect. To me, most of em feel like about the 5-6 Gillette setting, and this one's even a little milder (which I like).

The Arisotocrat/Diplomat models are actually very desireable razors that, unless the price is crazy, are snapped up pretty fast on various forums. Those are big favorites and still a decent value for what you get.

Yours looks exactly the same as mine. I've not had it long and only used it a dozen or so times, but I get on well with it - even though it's too early to compare it's aggressiveness with my other razors, I'd not disagree with it being comparable to a Gillette setting of 5 or 6.

I picked it up fairly cheaply (I think..) and wouldn't rule out a refurb and replate at the Razor Emporium at some time in the future.

I had the privilege to use this razor for a few weeks(thank you pedro) and I immediately discovered something different with it.This razor maybe as a agressive as a FB set on 7 or 8 but it feels like a superspeed across your face,so maybe a wolf in sheeps clothing.Everything is up to scartch, perfect weight distribution, good grip and size. Only one problem though, some say the gold plating on some was very thin and no durable.

Overall it did cut it for me and would certainly have one(that'll be after I purchase the enlish version first).
