If you had left it in it's original packaging and kept it in a safe place it would still be like new.What could I have done to prevent this from happening?

Pushing hard down when loading and lathering, sometimes referred to as mashing, causes the centre of the knot fibres to break, hence the lack of fibres left there. That brush is well worn so you need a new one; just don't treat the new one the same way.What could I have done to prevent this from happening?
