+1 BillyThat's Great..
I think the sooner Folks use the Shim the more benefits they feel from it because they haven't been using SEs that Long & they haven't Burned in any expectations of the Razor..Moreover..Folks that have been using Older SEs without the Shim for a Sustained period of Time unwittingly Burn in a Shaving Angle that they are Comfortable with that Compensates for the blade being at the Wrong Angle in the First Place..
Because the Shim Changes the Angle of the Blade albeit Very Subtly it also Changes the Shaving Angle To more Flatter Against the Face..Folks that have been using them without the Shim for a Sustained Period of Time can get thrown by this & perhaps be Outside their Comfort Zone..Old Habits Die Hard..I am just going by the Large amount of Feedback that I have got and this has become very apparent through Peoples self Reports..
Oh..Yeah & I reckon the Shim makes a Huge difference to the 1914 in Particular..

You need a bigger shelf. So what is a Clog Pruf? And do I need to add one to my rotation? Got three injectors and two Gem 1912 juniors only room for one more razor on the shelf! (split between 6 DE and 6 non DE)
The Gem Clog Pruf is essentially the Closed Comb/Bar Version of the OCMM with a Couple of Drain Holes..That's it in a Nut Shell..So what is a Clog Pruf? And do I need to add one to my rotation? My technique needs improving [emoji6]Removing the spine is a doddle, lad! Pinch with pliers on one side, then the other and it'll come clean off. Easy, peasy!
Glad you felt a difference with the shim..It can Make a 1912 a lot Smoother..I used a shim today for the first time. Popped into a US 1912 & I really enjoyed a smooth shave. What was different was that I had no irritation on my neck - something I get possibly every shave. Coincidence with the shim? I'm not sure. Enjoyed the shave - not particularly the removing of the spine from an old blade! It was a nice distraction from listening to Bradford City getting a reet old tonking though.

You can reuse the shim as often as you like...My technique needs improving [emoji6]
