Sunday 19th August PM
Prep: Warm rinse, Nivea Sensitive Face Wash then Nuage Shave Oil
Soap: Gentleman's Groom Room Highland Bothy
Brush: Executive Shaving Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless (5)
Post: Cold rinse, Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber then Boots Freshwood Aftershave followed by Boots Freshwood Aftershave Balm
My last day with the Newbie Pass Around Box and there was only ever going to be one winner when it came to choosing from the various creams and soaps - The Gentleman's Groom Room Highland Bothy. Having tried a majority in the box, this is head and shoulders above anything else. @Old-git make sure you try this when the box arrives with you!
I returned to my old prep routine with the Nuage Shave Oil but I'm not convinced it helps with a better shave. The stubble on my neck seemed to take a bit more work, but whether or not it's due my technique is yet to be bottomed out. The Proraso pre shave cream just seems to make things that bit sweeter.....I'll ponder over that and see how tomorrow night goes when I use the Proraso again.
I followed my usual 3 pass shave routine - WTG, XTG then ATG. The first 2 passes were good with me doing some buffing and J-hooking during my final pass ATG, just to try and get my neck the same as my face.
My face is BBS but my neck is just that little bit off. Not bad, just not perfect, but enough to annoy me. Having taken a day off shaving during the week there is definitely a massive difference shaving off 2 days growth. It was the closest and best shave I've had since turning to DE shaving, but I just don't like that stubble feeling anymore, however, I'll ponder over that too.
Finally, after rinsing it was a splash of Boots Freshwood Aftershave then Balm. It was a cheap purchase I made today to try and control my tumble down the rabbit hole.....but it's not slowing me down at all!!!! I'm feeling a tad nostalgic and may get some Brut and Old Spice too....just to put a smile on my old man's face!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
