Is there a big difference between Sancerre, a Sauvignon Blanc and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc?I'm not particularly discerning when it comes to wine, I do like champagne and cremant though but I tend to drink white wine nowadays if I get a bottle. I had a very nice bottle of sancerre at Christmas and that's a road I think I'd like to go down.

Although one must be wary of generalisation there is a significant difference between the Sauvignons of France and those of New Zealand. French production tends towards the 'austere' with poorer bottles seeming thin. Words like 'flinty' and even 'volcanic' tend to be used. The New Zealand and particularly the Marlborough area seems to suit Sauvignon really well, allowing it to expand into a much richer and flowery wine. Sancerre is a particular area within the Loire which is held in high regard vis a vis Sauvignon growth. Is there a big difference between Sancerre, a Sauvignon Blanc and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc?
