I am generally a Sparkling wine connoisseur, er drinker, especially Champagne clones from California and Australia. I am also fond of Rose wine. What do you enjoy?

I'm not particularly discerning when it comes to wine, I do like champagne and cremant though but I tend to drink white wine nowadays if I get a bottle. I had a very nice bottle of sancerre at Christmas and that's a road I think I'd like to go down.

Is there a big difference between Sancerre, a Sauvignon Blanc and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc?

Although one must be wary of generalisation there is a significant difference between the Sauvignons of France and those of New Zealand. French production tends towards the 'austere' with poorer bottles seeming thin. Words like 'flinty' and even 'volcanic' tend to be used. The New Zealand and particularly the Marlborough area seems to suit Sauvignon really well, allowing it to expand into a much richer and flowery wine. Sancerre is a particular area within the Loire which is held in high regard vis a vis Sauvignon growth.

If anyone has a 'Naked Wine' account, I can recommend their 'Voyage Extraordinaire' Sancerre. It's terrific, and the '20000 Leagues Under The Sea' labelling is a great touch. It is produced near Jules Verne's hometown.

'Pouilly-Fume' is the no expense spared option for Sauvignon Blanc.

I enjoy drinking wine, but in no way am I an expert; I leave that to the wife. I like most rose and white other than Chardonnay. My preferred white is NZ Sauvignon Blanc, especially Kim Crawford. When I drink red, I prefer Pinot Noir. I live in Southern Ontario about 60 miles from the Niagara Peninsula where there are extensive vineyards, which now produce some very quaffable wines; they're a bit expensive though.

https://marsovinwinery.com/shop/artist-edition-wine/1919-gellewza-75cl/ which is almost impossible to come by off Malta, so I reserve myself for when I'm there.

If we're up for a bottle, we'll almost certainly pick https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/celliers-des-dauphins-merlot-grenache/059522-30014-30015 which is a fun compromise for us, as Merlot is the Mrs' favourite grape and Grenache mine. The go fine together, like us. Awww

Very much enjoyed this, of late: https://www.freixenet.co.uk/The-Range/Italian/Chianti-D-O-C-G ... as did the Mrs. Probably a second favourite for a simple drinker with a Sunday roast.
